Shreya Smruti Mohanty made her international debut a successful story by winning bronze medal in under-11 girls category of the 10th Asian Schools Chess Championship, held at Taichung in Chinese Taipei from August 24 to 29, 2014.
A Standard-VII student of Kendriya Vidyalaya No 2, Bhubaneswar, Shreya scored 6.5 points out of a possible nine. She won five games, drew three and lost one. India made clean sweep of all three medals with Bommini Mounika Akshaya and Swera Ana Braganca taking gold and silver respectively, garnering seven points each.
Besides securing the Asian bronze medal, Shreya also bagged the Woman Candidate Master title. She had claimed the under-11 girls gold medal in the 3rd National Schools Chess Championship at New Delhi earlier this year in June.
Grand daughter former National champion Pabitra Mohan Mohanty, Shreya also qualified for the forthcoming World Chess Championship to be held in Brazil from November 25 to December 5.
